10 Eat-Man

Despite its lack of a budget, I really enjoyed this series. Bolt has to be one of the coolest characters in anime history(and probably one of the few I could viably cosplay as). Plus, the sound track utterly blew me away.. it was so.. so... strange.. but the music is so addictive and enchanting, really setting the mood for this intriguing series.

09 Urusei Yatsura

Although there are likely many that would disagree with me, I believe that by far, this was Rumiko Takahashi's best series ever. If you look closely, you can even see that this is the series from which Takahashi drew the base for many of her characters in later series. I say why go for the series with somewhat derivative characters when you can enjoy the very original? This is a true classic.

08 Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor (Mobile Police Patlabor)

Another case of utter brilliance in the anime world. Fantastic writing, character and mechanical designs, as well as a wonderful soundtrack. I'll never get tired of this series. It's hilarious, well thought out, and generally just plain grand. Plus, it's one of the few anime series out there that can boast a complete lack of bishonen and bishoujo, while managing to stand on its own two legs without that eye candy, as simply an utter work of genius as well. There are way too many eye candy series out there with not enough depth... *cough*Weiss Kreuz*cough* But this series just goes to show how good a series can be entirely sans bijin. Kudos to Masami Yuuki for creating this!

07 Gunbuster/Otaku No Video

Yeah, #7 just had to be a two-way tie. I couldn't decide which I liked more, both are further examples of Gainax brilliance. Gunbuster is one of the best giant robot series ever made, and far too often overlooked. Otaku No Video is a brilliant analysis of what it is to be an Otaku, while also laughing at what a bunch of pathetic losers Otaku are. I think, in a way, it's kind of a warning as well to people to make sure they know they're becoming Otaku as well, when they are, as becoming a complete Otaku isn't exactly healthy... but anyway, I'll elaborate on that some more in my forthcoming review/analysis of that which is Otaku No Video.

06 Chobits

CLAMP never seems to run out of good ideas. This is definitely one of their best yet. I saw the first three episodes of this at Animazement 2002 and it was worth it to show up in the video room hours before it showed(That was how I got to see the first 3 .hack// SIGN episodes, the first I Wish You Were Here, and the last half of Voices From a Distant Star).

05 FLCL

Yes, another Gainax title, I know, but after seeing the first several episodes of it at Animazement 2001, I found myself breathless from laughter, something I can hardly say about any other anime series out there. Of course, then again, I'm creepy and rarely laugh.. but nonetheless, this is psychotic and great.

04 Kareshi Kanojo No Jijou (His and Her Circumstances)

I've only seen the first volume, but this series captured my heart like no romantic comedy before. Gainax created another winner in my book.

03 Shin Seiki Evangelion (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

Tried and true, Evangelion is a fantastic series with an incredible conclusion. There aren't words enough for how great this series is... plus, let's face it, we all want an EVA, even those of us who don't admit it!

02 .hack//SIGN

Few anime out there speak directly to me, considering that, let's face it, most anime aren't about the things we face in everyday life, and now a series about a virtual reality RPG for RPG fanatics like myself. Fantastic. Plus, I think my namesake makes it obvious that I love this series. I'm very much looking foward to Bandai's releasing the .hack anime and game series stateside.

01 Seikai No Monshou (Crest of the Stars)

A purely fantastic work of art, a veritable tapestry of creative genius. I can't wait for Seikai No Senki and Seikai No Senki II. I just wish somebody would translate the original novels by Hiroyuki Morioka that these were all based on.
