Vision of Escaflowne, Card Captor Sakura, Gundam Wing, and Tenchi Muyo are some of the more popular anime series being shown on TV outside of Japan. Anime's surge of popularity has made for some good times for the anime fans out there. No longer must you spend $20 -$30 for a couple of episodes of a series. And there are no signs that the wave of anime on TV is slowing down. So to put a point to these ramblings, the French version of Mysterious Cities of Gold will be airing in Ontario at 3:00 pm. That's not all, Armored Trooper Votoms is going to get its chance at TV. This large mecha show will go on air September 7th at 1:30am on the International channel in the US. Ryosuke Takahashi's mech war classic bears a resemblance to the current, popular anime series Gundam Wing on the Cartoon Network (or should we say Gundam Wing resembles Votoms?).
Perhaps watching Fox you've noticed the commercials for Dark Angel? Perhaps, like me, you were really excited when you thought that it was based on the manga? Perhaps you were excited that James Cameron was interested in Battle Angel Alita? Now, perhaps you will be crushed and seeking vengeance? Dark Angel is not based on the manga; James is not doing a Battle Angel Alita conversion (that we know of anyway); and anime is still being butchered for American Television. Dark Angel does have some vague (very vague) similarities to Battle Angel Alita, but it doesn't seem to be too much like the series.
If you have ever played the Ultima series of games then you know of the rich and diverse story of the Avatar. Origin was built by Ultima, it being by far their most succesful game series. ADV has aquired the rights to make an anime based on the popular RPG. Anime Expo enlightened us to the fact that ADV was going to be working on a RPG title. They didn't specify that this was the same project, but I can't think of a better RPG source for an anime series.
For those of you salivating over the Gundam Wing figures, there is some even better news: there are going to be figures of the pilots!!! Not only can you have the Epyon sitting on your shelf, but Milliardo Peacecraft as well!!! These 1/35th scale figures will come along with the re-released 1/144 sclae model kits (doh, just after I bought the models). You better brush up on your painting skills because it is likely the figures will be unpainted. What? You want to know what they look like? Well......ok, here ya go!

If you missed Chiho Saito's chat on IRC at www.scifi.com, never fear--a transcript is there. (Ed. Note: Actually, no it isn't, anymore.) You can stop by and check it out. So why don't you go do that now?
