Reader Review Update

Legion (Former Staff) — July 11th, 2000 — 11:00 PM

Today we have a couple of reader reviews for you to peruse, both of which cover shows that are on the path to their domestic releases, as well as a fansub review from editor ElfShadow. From sword fighting action in feudal Japan to giant mech space combat, these reviews cover a nice range of content, so let's get right to it, shall we?

Starting with our reader contributions, Melicion has sent in his review of the Rurouni Kenshin TV series, the first volume, coming in DVD as well as sub and dub VHS varieties, set for release from Media Blasters shortly on July 18th. Read his take on Kenshin's travels as a rurouni, his frequent battles with new enemies and old rivals constantly threatening to reawaken the battousai within him, here.

Continuing on the same theme, Devindra Hardawar, who some of you may remember from our messages boards as Prince Mars or more recently as Tenken no Kasei, has written up his thoughts on the Rurouni Kenshin OVA series. This story, delving into Kenshin's dark past as the Hitokiri Battousai, is scheduled for VHS release, both dubbed and subbed, from ADV on August 22nd, while the DVD date is still unconfirmed. Take a look at his review of this show here, which is also mirrored on Devindra's own site, Mars Millennium, which also features an assortment of other anime and video game reviews, information and media.

Wrapping things up for the day, ElfShadow has written up a review on the first original Gundam theatrical feature. Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, taking place in the Universal Century continuity, serves to resolve the rivalry between Char and Amuro, as well as the long standing Federation / Jion conflict, and features some of the most impressive battle animation to date, in spite of the show's age, not to mention having featured the first use of CG in a Gundam show. Take a look at the review here.

That's all the reviews for now, but expect a follow up on these Kenshin reviews in the near future. What form will this follow up come in, you ask? Well, you'll just need to wait a few more days and be sure to check back often to find out.
