News and Media in the Twilight of a Tuesday MorningExcitement about the possibility of a broadcast of Trigun on the Cartoon Network quickly grew as Animerica had reported, as the caption accompanying a preview for the series, that the western comedy was on its way to television screens across North America. Unfortunately, this news didn't come about due to a contact leaking Animerica some early information on the acquisition of the broadcast rights, but rather as a result of a mere typo, the caption having been meant to go along with a story on Gundam Wing. Quite a let down indeed, but even without this great series, the Cartoon Network is no slouch when it comes to the anime department, having just recently announced Blue Submarine No. 6. Nonetheless, as the saying goes, bigger is better and the more the merrier, so I'd have had no problems watching another great show on TV for free, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be **sigh** Fret not though, since in preparation for the announcement of Trigun's broadcast acquisition, I encoded a couple of songs from the series. While you won't be able to watch the show on the Cartoon Network, at least you'll be able to hear some of its music. Both the opening and closing songs, H.T. and Kaze wa Mirai ni Fuku respectively, have been uploaded, so head on over to the Music section and give them a listen. They can be found in the Real Audio portion of the section. In some positive broadcast news bound to brighten your spirits, Princess Mononoke is likely to show up on American television screens at some point this summer. It will be appearing on Starz, but details regarding when this broadcast will actually occur are unknown as of yet. What little information is available, however, can be seen at the Starz website, where they have Princess Mononoke listed. The Big Hit. Now was that a funny movie or what? No? Well, the director is now going to be working on Sony's new movie adaptation of Mai, The Psychic Girl manga. A number of other directors had been rumored to be working on this project, from Tim Burton to Francis Ford Coppola, but all speculation has been put to rest with the confirmation of Kirk Wong as director for the movie. In addition to The Big Hit, he's also directed a number of Hong Kong action flicks. Let's just hope he does a good job with Mai, which he'll be starting once he finishes up his current project for Warner Brothers. Remember Transformers? I mean the original ones, back when they were cars... ahhh, the good ole days. Well, it looks like those days have returned, a new series called Car Robots having started airing in Japan back on April 5th with the first episode "First Mission! Fire Convoy". Not too much is known right now, but it is rumored that Optimus Prime will appear in the series in one capacity or another. Takara has released a new line of Transformers toys to support the series. The Car Robots, being the good guys in the series, consist of Wild Ride, Mach Alert, Speed Breaker, and the leader Super Fire Convoy. Super Fire Convoy, a robot resembling Optimus Prime, can change into a fire engine as well as a Base. Of course there has to be bad guys and Car Robots has 'em, Gigatron, the leader of the Destrongers (bad guys), being a very impressive figure due to his 6 different transformation modes. He can change into a robot, a car, a jet, a giant Hand of Doom (why he'd want to be a giant hand, when he could be a jet instead, I'm really not sure), a bat, and a two headed dragon. The Destrongers are flushed out with some old remakes, such as the train JRX, the constructobots, and a new carbot, God Magnus, who can combine with Super Fire Convoy to form Ultra Fire Convoy. A re-release of the original G!-Optimus Prime is on the way as well. Also, for those fans of Jessica Calvello out there who enjoyed reading her short online manga, she's put the second issue up on her website here. If you missed the first issue of Chibi-Jess, you can still see it, and the new issue as well, on her site. The comic will be updated bi-weekly on Thursdays from now on. Stop by and be sure to let her know what you think. We've got one last little tidbit to finish up the day. Voltron, planned for home video release soon, will also be coming out on DVD from Trimark. Both the DVD and VHS are still on schedule and will be released under the Trimark label, despite the recent buy out of their home video market share. That's it for today, thanks going out again to Moridin for his tireless contributions on the news front. As a final note, don't expect to be able to download anything from the movie section for a while, as problems have occurred in the process of upgrading server hardware (ain't that always the way =/ ). Can you say hard drive crash? How about massive data loss? I knew that you could ^^ Links: |
