VHD News and UV Broadcast InfoVampire Hunter D, a title that means as much as Akira does to most anime fans. As was already known, this excellent piece of work is being re-released by Urban Vision, in both subbed and dubbed varieties. It'll also serve as Urban Vision's first foray into the DVD market, using its success to gauge the viability of the release of other titles onto the digital format. While the connection between how well a catalogue title, such as Vampire Hunter D, will sell with relation to the day and date DVD release of a newer series seems somewhat dubious, I'm itching to see Berserk in its full glory on DVD, so I'm hoping the VHD DVDs sell like hotcakes upon their release. Hint, hint! Buy as many copies as your little legs can carry ^_- In addition to the re-release of the old OVA, Urban Vision is also involved in the production of the new Vampire Hunter D movie, featuring a number of plot changes and a welcome facelift, courtesy of Studio Madhouse's animation efforts. They've cleared up the status of the project, as well as some of their plans for the release of the title. They state that the movie is completely finished and that work is progressing on getting the dubbed version out to theatres. They're quoted as saying, "We really want to give the new film the kind of backing it deserves. We are currently determining a plan to release it in theaters." Admittedly, all of this may simply be a reiteration of previously known news, but it acts as a nice lead in to the new trailer posted on their website. While similar to the old trailer, a number of changes have been made, including more battle scenes and character shots. Check it out for yourself at Urban Vision's website. In related news, the original Vampire Hunter D OVA will soon be shown on Cinemax, along with a number of other Urban Vision titles. VHD will be the last anime shown in this June broadcast run, airing midnight on June 25th. Other scheduled titles include Goku: Midnight Eye on June 11th at midnight, followed at 1:00 AM by Golgo 13: Queen Bee, and continuing on June 18th with a midnight showing of Wicked City. For further details on these shows and their broadcasts, take a peek at the full press release here.
Finally, Urban Vision has announced the re-release of The Professional: Golgo 13, another title previously dubbed and distributed by Streamline, as was the case with VHD. The film, being based on Takao Saito's manga series by the same name (minus the professional part ^^), centers around the ruthless hitman Golgo 13, who finds himself trapped in an unpleasant situation where the hunter has become the hunted. The movie will be available August 29th in both subbed and dubbed formats, retailing for $19.95 and $29.95 respectively. Click here to take a look at the press release in full. Links: |
