AniManga Dates, Delays and Acquisitions
Legion (Former Staff) — May 31st, 2000 — 11:00 PM
Well, well, well, there's never a day without a delay, is there? Fret not, for with the bad comes some good; some very good in fact. ADV decided to inform us of what they have in store for September and it seems like they have quite a few things up their sleeves. First off is the delay of Gasaraki: The Summoning from August 22nd to September 26th. Gasaraki is a great pick up for those giant mech loving folks out there and it runs almost 100 minutes long for the first 4 episodes. Be sure to check it out in both subbed and dubbed versions this September.
If you're not a giant mech fan, or you're just in the mood for some good old love triangle comedy, than you'll be very pleased to know that the third volume of Sakura Diaries is scheduled for September 29th. Why settle for one, when you can have two? Also scheduled for release on the same day is the fourth volume of Spell Wars. Spell Wars is a haunting mystery series that any mystery fan will probably want to check out, not to mention any fan of the original Sorcerer Hunters series. If you're not a mystery fan, well, check it out anyway.
.........Huh? What? Oh, Sorry, I was thinking about that lovely Sakura Diaries sweetie Urara, but before I go and lose myself to her feminine charms, I'll finish telling you about today's news. ADV isn't done yet, with one more title scheduled for September. Lost Universe is 100 minutes of action comedy, much akin to the Slayers series. It's set for release on September 12th. ADV has a great lineup for September at $19.98 for dubbed versions and $29.95 for subbed, and if you're like me, you're probably counting the days until their first September release (it's only 104 days by the way).
While ADV is talking September, Right Stuf is talking right now... well, if Right now was August anyway. The ever popular Irresponsible Captain Tylor is back with volume 2 of the OVA collection, due out on August 29th. They didn't stop there though. They also let us know that Kimba, The White Lion (that's Kimba not Simba) is also due out on the 29th.
It doesn't seem as though a company can give us good news without pilling on some bad. More bad than good, I'm afraid. A number of titles have been put on temporary hold and will be resolicited at a later date. These titles include Leda: The Fantastic Adventures of Yohko (subbed) and Tabor: The Eighth Man volume 1.
A moment of silence please... Okay, that's long enough. We have two more delays to depress you with. Manga has delayed the June release of Sword of Truth and Patlabor 1, both of which are now scheduled for sometime in July.
In light of all the bad news, Mixx decided to cheer us up with the announcement of some new acquisitions. First they picked up He says, She Says (Kareshi Kanojo No Jijou), a manga by Masami Tsuda. It's a story about Yukino, an overachieving high school student, and her new rival Soichirou. Will the two be at each other's throats as bitter enemies or in each other's arms as lovers? Read and find out for yourself this October.
Mixx has also acquired Miracle Girls by Akimoto Nami, a story about identical twins who are totally different in just about every way. They do have one thing in common though, gaining Miracle powers when they unite. Can they keep their powers a secret?
Their next manga is Juline by Narumi Kakinouchi. A collection of young girls from one of the biggest martial arts schools around must discover the mystery behind the village's disappearing warriors. Hehe... Girls and martial arts! I can't think of a better combination.
Their last title is Saint Tail by Megumi Tachikawa. Saint Tail is a Robin Hood like thief, stealing to help the needy with the help of a novice nun. No one knows that Meimi is actually Saint Tail, not even her boyfriend Asuka Jr who is trying to stop the elusive thief.
If you missed X in the theatres, or didn't want to spend the time streaming it over the internet, and were waiting for the release, then there's some good and bad news. As we reported earlier, the dubbed version as seen in theatres will be released July 25th, but if you're waiting for the subbed version or the DVD, then get ready to wait until October. At least it's now listed more specifically for release on the 20th. Nothing better to do? Well, we got more news for you.
It's not here... look down below.
Well, we're not done yet, so just hang in there. I know you're itching to go watch your old Sakura Diaries tapes in preparation for the third volume, but keep reading; it's worth it. Jessica Calvello, english voice actor for titles such as Cutey Honey, Dirty Pair, and Dragon-Half, has announced the launch of her own new manga. The best thing is it's online and... it's free!!! Check out Jessica's World and read the first issue. See, free manga! Isn't that worth it?
Well, that's it for today, but before you go, don't forget to send Moridin some free anime for passing along this news and keeping us up to date... or not =P Now you can go watch your old Sakura Diaries tapes (they'll just have to do till ADV breaks out the old icepick and carves up the first DVD ^_-) and mope around until you get some new anime to watch!
