Urban Vision Speaks On Berserk

Legion (Former Staff) — May 27th, 2000 — 5:30 AM

Although the Official Dreamcast magazine was definitely on the right track in their report on Urban Vision's acquisition of Berserk, it appears they were a little premature with the information. While Urban Vision is indeed in negotiations for the show, and are closing in on a deal, the contract has yet to be finalized, so details are up in the air right now. They're confident that a deal will be reached soon, but don't expect a release until the fourth quarter of this year, possibly October or November, as opposed to the speculated date of August. Here's an excerpt from an email I received from Rhona Medina, UV's marketing manager, on the matter:

Currently we are in the final negotiational stages regarding the contract for Berserk. While we hope to be able to make a formal announcement soon, at this time, we do not have definite release dates nor information about the pending acquisition. The contract should be finalized in the very near future, so we hope to have the first volume ready at some time in the fourth quarter.

Despite this slight delay, I'm still really looking forward to the domestic release of Berserk. I can only hope that the rapidly growing DVD market will be kept in mind for this show. The upcoming Vampire Hunter D movie will serve as UV's test bed for the digital format, and will hopefully be only the first in a line of DVD releases, including Berserk.

I've also put together a few image galleries from this series. The pictures are mostly a collection of character design sketches and manga images, but there are a couple featuring the art from the TV series too. The first of two galleries can be viewed here, while the second can be seen here.
