Manic Flames Mark the Strange Partnerships in The World

TOKYOPOP has announced that they will team with the NBA to produce a sports-themed comic. Rather than using hand drawn artwork, the comic will feature photographs that are peppered with comic-style word balloons. Each book will retail for $7.99US and will hit stores this winter.
Viz has announced that they will be launching a new advertising campaign with Dr. Pepper. The first ads in the campaign will appear in Shonen Jump beginning on May 4. To help promote the campaign, Dr. Pepper and Viz will be launching a contest in which aspiring artists send in self-portraits. Entries will be judged in several categories, including creativity, originality, and the incorporation of anything Dr. Pepper. Finalists will be posted at the Shonen Jump site, where viewers will vote for their favorite. The winner will receive a Trek mountain bike, which is valued at $400.00 US. A first prize winner will receive a Nintendo Gamecube, and 25 third prize winners will receive Dr. Pepper hats. In addition to prizes, finalists may also see their work featured in an upcoming Shonen Jump magazine.
According to Animerica, Viz is planning to release the first Inu-Yasha movie DVD this summer. The second movie is set for a fall release.
Konami has announced that they will be releasing a game based on Flame of Recca (Houno no Recca). Titled Houno no Recca: Final Burning, the game will be a fighting game that utilizes animation clips to represent pieces of the battles.
ComicsOne has quietly announced that they plan to release the manga series Manic Road. The first volume will debut in July with a suggested retail price of $9.99 US.
