X Online Broadcast
Legion (Former Staff) — May 23rd, 2000 — 11:55 PM
Being well into its theatrical run, X/1999 only recently made it to the big screen here in Toronto, playing between May 19th and 25th at the Bloor Cinema. Unfortunately, not everyone has had, nor will have, the chance to catch this movie at the theatre in their home town, but don't despair, Sputnik7 will soon be coming to the rescue.
Sputnik7 has had a pretty good relationship with Manga in the past, hosting a number of their trailers for films like Perfect Blue and X, as well as providing an anime channel, running 24/7 and featuring a variety of feature films and shorts. Their newest addition, which will only be shown for a limited time, is CLAMP's full-length feature X, released in North America through Manga. The broadcast will be limited to Friday, May 26th, through Sunday, May 28th, so make sure you don't miss it. The video quality options for Sputnik7 media are quite varied, depending on your bandwidth, but tend to pale in comparison to traditional media. Even so, if you haven't seen this movie yet, this will likely be your best chance until it's released on home video.
Speaking of which, Manga recently announced a delay in the video release for both the sub VHS and DVD of X. Here's a quote from them on the issue:
Right now we are looking at a street date of July 25th for the VHS release of "X" (dubbed only). The subtitled version, and the DVD will follow - probably in October. There has been a substantial delay in getting the Japanese language materials from the Japanese company which produced the film, so there's little we can do to push the DVD date up.
In an interesting turn of events, Manga UK has confirmed that their August 14th release date on the UK DVD is indeed correct, containing both the English and the original Japanese audio tracks. It looks like this will be one of those rare occasions where the UK version comes out prior to the North American release.
