Anime Boston: Friday's News Bites

RPGuy (Editor) — April 9th, 2004 — 9:09 PM

Convention season is back, and things are kicking off with Anime Boston. Today, representatives from Media Blasters and Synch Point arrived to announced their latest.

Media Blasters presented first, but could not announce any formal titles. Having just arrived from the Tokyo Anime fair, Media Blasters has several titles pending. The only information that they let slip was a tidbit about one of their upcoming series. Described as a show with a "giant robot" and a "girl that goes well with tonic," the show remains a mystery. It is currently being remastered in Japan and will be released once the Japanese release completes. Media Blasters has also announced that Twelve Kingdoms will currently end at 45 episodes, due to the show's designer falling horribly ill. Whether there will be more episodes made is still unknown.

Synch Point's panel was much more informative, as the company let out that they now own the rights to the original DiGi Charat series. As an added surprise, Broccoli managed to get Puchiko's original voice actress (Miyuki Sawashiro) to come to America to play her part in the English release. The company could not secure the rights to DiGi Charat, citing that another company has already acquired it. However, Synch Point will be overseeing all of the DiGi Charat series to ensure the best possible quality. Along with DiGi Charat, Synch Point assured the crowds that I'm Gonna Be an Angel! volume 3 will be released in a much timelier manner than the second volume. The panel also saw the unveiling of Synch Point's new "Broccoli Gear" line, which will handle merchandising for Broccoli's (and other companies') franchises.
