Scandulu no Escaflowne?
According to Variety Online, DiC is filing a $5 million lawsuit against Speed Racer Enterprises. The lawsuit came about through an alleged breach of contract that allowed DiC to license the TV and merchandising rights of the show for a price of $779,500, plus half of their gross income from the show. Speed Racer Enterprises is fighting this case, claiming that DiC never exerted its option to licence additional episodes. As a counter, DiC claims it did not exert its right because Speed Racer Enterprises witheld contract information so they could sell future episodes to another company for a higher price. Only time will tell how this one will turn out.
TOKYOPOP has announced that it has acquired the rights to the Tenkuu no Escaflowne (Vision of Escaflowne) manga, and will begin releasing the series over seven volumes, each retailing at $9.99 each. The first volume is scheduled to hit stores on July 8, 2003.
