On April 14, Manga Entertainment announced that they will be releasing Read or Die on DVD on May 27. The series, which has won several awards, including Anime Expo 2002's "Best OVA", presents a double punch with direction by Kouji Masunari (Tenchi Muyo in Love) and production design by Kunyuki Jinguji (Trigun).
The series follows the book-loving Yamiko Readman, a school teacher who moonlights as a secret agent under the moniker, "The Paper". The story follows Yamiko as she tries to find a certain someone that is determined to obtain various rare volumes of text by Beethoven. Granted, this doesn't seem like something that a secret organization should spend its time on, but the situation changes quite a bit when this certain someone starts sending a few of history's greatest to do his dirty work. This is where said secret organization , which is known as "Library", comes in. Library has decided that Yamiko is the best one for the job, and sends her, along with two more agents: Ms. Deep, who has the amazing ability to pass through any solid substance, and Drake: marksman and sniper extraordinaire. These three must band together to recover these volumes and save the world from yet another madman's threat.
The DVD will retail at $29.95, and have a laundry list of extra features including the original trailer, historical biographies, a photo gallery, director and crew interviews, and a poster.
