TOKYOPOP invades Britain

RPGuy (Editor) — April 2nd, 2003 — 8:53 PM

On April 2, 2003, TOKYOPOP announced that they would be expanding their business into Great Britain. Partnering with Red Route Distribution Ltd., TOKYOPOP plans to place its manga line in over 2,000 bookstores nationwide. For those that don't know, Red Route is the largest supplier of graphic novels to the British book market. This partnership was further solidified at the London Book Fair, where the two companies hosted an exhibit.

According to TOKYOPOP chairman Stuart Levy, this move was the next step for them, and they are overjoyed to see Red Route expanding their reader base. This announcement couldn't have come at a better time, as it is in the wake of an incredible year for TOKYOPOP. In this year, the company doubled its revenue, and increased its book market by around 300 percent. It's hard to believe this would have happened when TOKYOPOP announced its 100% Authentic Manga line, which became a huge hit with the public. Today, the company is consistently holding half of the top 50 positions in BookScan's weekly Graphic Novel Bestseller charts.
