In the News

Japanese Fans Loving .hack//SIGN: A Newtype reader poll puts .hack//SIGN at the number one spot for anime series. Other notable series to make the list are Cowboy Bebop at #4, Chobits at #6, Noir at #7, and Neon Genesis Evangelion at #10. The full list can be found here.

Production I.G. Info Bits: Ever wonder what the I and G stand for? Of course not, but we're gonna spread the word anyway. As mentioned in their The Spy Who Loved Kimchi column on their official English site (and also their About I.G. page), the I and G in Production I.G. are actually the initials of two of its executives, Ishikawa and Goto. Now you know.

Not familiar with Production I.G.? They've produced (in whole or in part) some of the most popular anime series and movies in existance, including Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL, Jin-Roh, Blood: The Last Vampire, and Sakura wars the Movie. I.G.'s circle of influence doesn't end there though. Subsidiaries Xebec (Nadesico, Love Hina) and Bee Train (Noir, Arc the Lad) have both produced wildly popular works. Now you know.

ADV to Distribute Newtype: Right Stuf reports that ADV will be publishing the monthly Newtype magazine (a popular Japanese anime magazine) in America. The publisher was supposed to be Digital Manga, Inc., but due to internal problems, ADV has taken over. The US version of Newtype will cover latest anime happenings on both sides of the Pacific. 20,000 first prints will be given out at Anime Expo this year.

In other Right Stuf news, Tokyopop has picked up the popular street-racing drama Initial D for distribution. A release date has not yet been announced for the first volume.
