Akira Hits Blu-Ray In '09

Bandai announced that they will release Akira on blu-Ray. The film will be fully remastered in high definition from the source material. The blu-Ray release will include English and Japanese audio, with English and Japanese subtitles. The Japanese audio encoded in 192kHz, 24-bit format - an industry first. Extra features will include various teasers and commercials, and the disc itself will ship with a 20-page booklet.
Akira will hit stores on February 24, 2009 under the Honneamise label, with a suggested retail price of $49.98. Currently, a DVD release has not been announced. The blu-Ray edition is the first North American release of Akira since Geneon USA withdrew from the American market in 2007.
