Akira's Live Tales of Crude Plush Toys

Variety Magazine reports that Warner Bros., in conjunction with Legendary Pictures and Appian Way, has acquired the rights to a live-action adapatation of Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira. The Akira storyline will be split into two films, which will be directed by Ruairi Robinson. Screenwriter Gary Whitta will script the films, and Leonardo DiCaprio will be one of the film's producers. The films' setting will be changed to New Manhattan from the manga's Neo-Tokyo. Currently, the first film is slated for a summer 2009 debut.
Toy Vault has obtained the license to produce toys based on Shin-chan. The first line of toys is scheduled to hit stores this summer, and will include plush toys(silent and talking varieties), puppets, and plush pillows.
